Coffee, Tea…or an Alpha Male Who Owns The Largest Chain of Coffee Houses in the World?

I’ll take the third one! And so did my editor. πŸ˜‰ The Coffee Magnate, who has no title as yet, has sold!

*does a small, dorky dance*

I really, really, really loved writing this book. I’ve always had a thing for friends to lovers books. (Maybe because my husband was my friend, and boss, before we started dating!)

I knew it would be a challenge to write a friends to lovers for Presents, but I really wanted to give it a try, and thankfully, my editor was willing to go with me on the journey.

When I went to contract in January, I was asked that one of the books be able to fit in with the One Night In… mini-series. Meaning that the book would be centered around one passionate night in the location of my choice. Beyond that I had the freedom to do whatever I wanted.

I knew I wanted to do something coffee related, since I’m an enthusiast, and Lisa Hendrix suggested Chiang Mai, Thailand. I’d set a book in Thailand before (My current North American release MARRIAGE MADE ON PAPER, which is actually a part of the 21st Century Bosses mini-series) and I was really excited to set another book there, since I find myself very inspired by the natural beauty and architecture of that country.

I had my coffee magnate hero, Zack, and it seemed only right that my heroine, Clara, make sweet treats, to go with the coffee. πŸ˜‰ And Zack and Clara go together as well as a red velvet cupcake and a vanilla latte. (And those two things go well together, trust me, I did my research for this book. LOL. Cupcakes were consumed. Coffee was had.)

Zack and Clara are business partners and best friends, and when the book opens, it’s Zack’s wedding day. To another woman. Unfortunately, things don’t go exactly as planned. Zack’s wedding is set to be the event of the year, and everyone who gets an invitation comes. Except for the bride.

Zack’s wedding might be off, but he still plans to go on his honeymoon. And he’s decided to ask Clara to go in his absent bride’s place…platonically, of course.

But the romance of Chiang Mai makes platonic very difficult.

The book has a tentative May 2012 release date for the UK and it will be a part of the One Night In series. πŸ˜‰

*streamers*

I’ve pitched a Presents Duet to my editor and I’m about to get started on the first book!

  1. Congratulations, Maisey! Sounds like a fun story. I’m a sucker for buddy romance, too.

  2. It is an AWESOME story!! Zack is Mr Hotness and Clara is a doll. Can’t wait to hear what title you get. πŸ™‚

  3. Ruthie, thank you! I’m such a huge fan of buddy romance. πŸ˜‰ Writing this story was the best experience.

Jackie, thanks so much! I do love Zack…

Also, fair warning, it’s a funny book…but Zack’s backstory will sneak up and punch you in the guts. You were all warned.

  4. Can’t wait to read this book. Am NOT a lover of coffee but I too am a lover of Friends To Lovers stories and can’t wait to read a Presents one. I admit to not reading MANY Presents (mostly yours and people I know and like in Oz) but I can’t recall reading a F2L before!

  5. Rach, yes, you like Diet Coke, right? πŸ˜‰ As for F2L there have been a couple that I can think of, but it’s certainly not done often. The Boss’s Wife For a Week is the most recent one I can think of.

  6. Okay, I don’t know what it is about that descrip, but I’m like, blinking away tears already. I love the idea for this book, Maisey! Congrats on another sale! *throws confetti and Hershey’s Kisses*

  7. Hehe!! *rubs hands together* Excellent. :} Also *catches Hershey’s Kisses*

I got the idea for the set up while watching So You Think You Can Dance. They did a hip hop routine that was supposed to be between two friends, and the man had been abandoned at the altar, and she was there supporting him until he saw her differently…*sigh*

  8. Congrats on selling the “coffee” book Maisey. Can’t wait to read it. Caroline x p.s how about a “for fun” competition on naming the coffee book? Now I’ve mentioned it though, I can’t think of a single decent title! LOL.

  9. LOL! Caroline, the actual working title is One Night in Chiang Mai, but I’m certain it will be changed! I’m a terribly title creator myself. The working title for An Accidental Birthright was The Prince’s Pregnant Virgin. *hides*

  10. Maisey, this story sounds like heaven – coffee and cupcakes and romance! Three of my favourite things.

  11. Anne, mine too. This book had a lot of things in it that I just *liked*. It was fun to really let go and do the sort of story I’ve wanted to do for a long time.

  12. Oh wow. This sounds like a great story. A honeymoon with a friend. Can’t wait to see how that turns out.

Stupid question of the day – what’s a Presents Duet exactly?

  13. Marcie, ah yes…the platonic ‘honeymoon’…might not stay so platonic. πŸ˜‰

Not a stupid question! I’m pitching two linked books that will be released back to back. I’ve done them unofficially (and by that I mean…I wrote one and wrote the next without really saying upfront they were linked.) but the good thing about doing it this way is that the scheduling will work more in my favor, and they’ll probably have a logo signifying that they go together. Easier for readers to find!

As it is, An Accidental Birthright and The Inherited Bride were linked, but IB was released as an EXTRA so quite a few people missed it. And in the UK Marriage Made on Paper was released as a Modern, while it’s companion The Petrov Proposal was put into an anthology. This way they’ll be easier to follow!

  14. I really love a friends to lovers story. And, of course, coffee and cupcakes. I can’t wait to read yours!

  15. Julia, it’s a combination I could not resist. πŸ™‚

  16. I love the friends to lovers storyline too, Maisey. Pumped for your book already! Although, I’m a bit worried about Zack’s back story sneaking up and punching me in the guts. Knowing you, it really will…at least I’ve been warned! There’s nothing quite like laughing and crying within minutes of each other πŸ™‚

  17. Madeline, I promise you its…really, really mean. πŸ˜‰ But I thank you for the compliment!
