Important Stuff
I was fortunate enough to get involved with Unleash Your Story this year. Writers and readers pledged to read/write a certain number of words and collected donations for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. It was a really wonderful, meaningful experience.
One of my very dear friends has a child with Cystic Fibrosis and the tireless effort she puts into helping the cause amazes me constantly. Not only that, she’s one of the bravest people I know. She and her son are definitely two of my real life heroes.
Through medical research great leaps have been made in finding new treatments for CF, and one of the best things we can do to help is to give, even if it is just a little. Here is a link if you feel led to make a donation http://www.cff.org/GetInvolved/ManyWaysToGive/MakeADonation/. If that isn’t possible for you, I’ll ask for your prayers for my friend, her son, and the researchers working to give these kids the best quality of life they can have.
When Unleash Your Story comes around again I will be sure to post some info on that.
Thank you, and God bless,
Maisey
About CF:
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that:
- clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and
- obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.
In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond.
